Top Artists Davido Helped To Limelight

Davido recently broke the internet when he raised about N200,000 Million after asking his friends and fans to send him money. In his words, if you know I’ve given you a hit song, send me money, una know una selves, o

Davido is not just a Nigerian superstar but a global one. In his decade-long career, he has helped many others get to the top, including musicians and other professions. As a result, it’s not surprising that he could raise over $400,000 in hours from what started as a joke.

To know the extent of Davido’s influence, here are some top artists he helped to limelight.

  1. Runtown

Runtown began his music career in 2010 but didn’t get his big break until 2014. He dropped Gallardo featuring Davido at the start of the year and it became one of the biggest hits in the Nigerian music industry.

In fact, Gallardo won the Best Collaboration of The Year Award at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. At the time, Davido was the rave of the moment as he dropped his smash hit Skelewu the previous year.

The song was the lead single from Runtown’s Ghetto University album and it set the album on to success.

  1. MC Galaxy

Before MC Galaxy became the musician he is today, he was a comedian and dancer. If you watch Iyanya’s Kukere Video, you’ll see him doing his thing. His success story has Davido written all over it.

In 2012, MC Galaxy won N500,000 at Davido’s party via a supposed dance competition. This was the early days of Davido’s career and brought him a little fame. The next year, 2013, MC Galaxy collaborated with Davido on Nek Unek.

The song transformed the dancer/comedian to a national superstar. Nek Unek should be MC Galaxy’s second-biggest hit only bested by Sekem

  1. Diamond Platnumz

From 2013 to 2015, Davido was in charge of the Nigerian music industry. Diamond Platnumz, from Tanzania, is another one of the artists he helped during that period.

Diamond Platnumz is the first Africa-based artiste to reach a combined 900 million views on YouTube. It’s difficult to say this would be possible if he didn’t feature Davido in the remix of his hit song Number One.

One thing’s for sure. Remixing Number One with Davido put Diamond Platnumz in the Nigerian spotlight. Everybody knows Nigeria has the biggest music audience in Africa.

  1. Lil Kesh

Although signed under YBNL, Davido played a major role in bringing Lil Kesh to limelight. Lil Kesh dropped his first two singles Lyrically and Shoki in 2014. Both songs caught the attention of Nigerian music lovers.

However, it took the help of Davido and Olamide on the remix of Shoki to make Lil Kesh a household name in Nigeria. In fact, it was just 3 months between the release of the main track and the remix. After Shoki, Lil Kesh was one of the top artists in Nigeria as he dropped Gbese, Efejoku, and more.

  1. Mayorkun

Without DMW, Mayorkun may never have been the big superstar he is today. Who owns DMW? You already know the answer. Mayorkun initially caught Davido’s attention after making a cover of his hit song Money featuring Olamide.

Davido signed Mayorkun to DMW in 2016 and he dropped his debut single Eleko. From there, the fame kept growing and growing. Unlike other artists previously mentioned, Davido didn’t help Mayorkun attain stardom by featuring in his song.

In fact, Mayorkun didn’t feature Davido in a song until Bobo that dropped in 2018, 2 years after his signing.

  1. Peruzzi

Peruzzi and Mayorkun have a similar story that involves Davido. Both were signed onto DMW. However, that of Peruzzi is a little more personal. Peruzzi is a cousin to Chioma, Chef Chi, who is the mother of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi.

Peruzzi’s first introduction to Nigerian music lovers was on the DMW group collaboration Mind. It was the song where he coined his now popular term I’m Loooo. Nevertheless, Peruzzi’s big break came from his feature on 2Baba’s Amaka

It’s arguable that Peruzzi wouldn’t have found his way to appear on a track with a heavyweight like 2Baba if not for the Davido-influence.

  1. Tekno

Tekno deserves the majority of his success credits. However, he’s on this list because Davido gave him an early push. Tekno blew up as a Triple MG artist with Dance and Anything.

However, before signing with Triple MG, Tekno was signed to K-Money Entertainment where he dropped his first official single. That single was Holiday and it featured Davido.

4 years later, Tekno will produce If for Davido which went on to be one of his biggest songs till date.

  1. Lyta

You should know Lyta’s story. The young lad was signed to Olamide’s YBNL Nation and left after just a year following disagreements with Baddo himself. He dropped Monalisa just after leaving YBNL.

According to Davido, he got to know about Lyta’s exit from YBNL and has to support the singer. He reached out to the singer for a possible collaboration and the result was the remix of Monalisa.

Davido also sponsored the video shoot of the song in Dakar. This collaboration with OBO helped put the self-made crooner back into the spotlight.

  1. Lil Frosh

In 2019, Davido signed Lil Frosh to DMW where the singer released his hit song Fifty50. However, he fell out with OBO when news of domestic violence hit the internet. It led to the termination of his contract.

Well, Lil Frosh caught Davido’s attention when he dropped his single Davido in September 2019. His DMW signing happened a month later.

Bottom Line

On this list are just 9 names, all in the music business. Davido has helped so many other artists in the music business too, the latest being Focalistic. If I were to list everyone Davido has helped attain success, you won’t be able to read it all.
